Bury FC will be competing in the English League One after earning a promotion spot in the English League Two and David Flitcroft is preparing his squad by releasing some of the deadweight from his team and signing new players.
Leon Clarke was one of the initial signings that Bury FC made as Clarke was signed for on a free transfer after the 30 year old player was released by Wolverhampton Wanderers and has now penned a 3 year long contract with the recently promoted English League One club.
David Flitcroft is attempting to reinforce his team without offloading big cash and Leon Clarke was the 2nd free signing of Bury FC as they had already signed Peter Clarke.
Peter Clarke is a 33 year old defender who made a move from Blackpool over to Bury FC on a free deal who has been the captain of a number of clubs including: Southend United and Blackpool.
Experience is something that David Flitcroft wanted to add into the team and by signing Peter Clarke; the manager feels that he is the ideal signing as Clarke can help out and guide some of his younger teammates not only inside the pitch but outside of it as well.
Bury’s David Flitcroft said: “Peter is a very important signing for the team and the club as we enter an exciting new League One adventure. With his experience, knowledge and understanding of playing at higher levels, it was important to capture his services and add him to the group. He is a natural-born leader and organizer, a football man of stature and standing in the game. With the young, dynamic defenders we currently have at the club he complements them superbly.’’
Apart from Peter Clarke and Leon Clarke, Flitcroft has also added to the team Tom Pope from Port Vale. Pope’s contract with Port Vale had reached it’s end in the summer and Flitcroft took advantage of this situation by signing Tom Pope on a 3 year long free transfer.
Tom Pope helped out Port Vale in snatching a promotion spot into the English League One by scoring 28 goals since his arrival to the English club and now Flitcroft is hoping that with all of these signings, Bury FC will be able to get into the English Championship League.
